CERT Mock Disaster Drill, May 9

Local media is invited to attend the final Exercise/Disaster Simulation for the Adult CERT class that will take place at Western Dakota Tech, Rushmore Building and Training Tower, 1600 Sedivy Lane, on Saturday, May 9, at 11:45am.

Over the past 5 weeks, the CERT class participants have put in 17+ hours of training learning about potential disasters that could affect our area and how to safely and responsibly respond to them. Topics covered include:

  • How to identify and anticipate hazards
  • How to reduce fire hazards in the home and workplace
  • How to extinguish small fires
  • How to conduct light search and rescue
  • How to assist those who are injured
  • How to provide assistance to emergency responders
  • How to help reduce survivor stress

Community Emergency Response Team (CERT), a Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) national program, trains volunteers of all ages and walks of life in disaster preparedness and emergency response.
